First Manage Yourself, Then...

Are you dreaming about becoming the best version of yourself but nothing really changes? Are you trying to reach your ideal self but you don’t know where to start? Or maybe you just want to get your life together once and for all? If your answer is yes, then continue to read this post and you will learn how to manage yourself effectively so that you can get the results you want. And so, without further ado, here are 10 self-management skills you need to develop for success.

But First

Building new habits, developing skills and strengthening your mindset is a process that requires time, effort, focus and self-discipline. Thus, you should not expect that you will see immediate results. Real change doesn’t happen overnight. That’s why it’s so important that you cultivate self-compassion, patience and self-awareness during this process of personal transformation. Don’t try to speed up the process, instead, redirect your focus on the present moment and enjoy your journey. It’s time to raise up your standards and level up your life!

1. Happiness Skills

True happiness is coming from inside and it’s self-created. What comes from the outside world and it’s entirely dependent on external factors it’s not happiness but pleasure. And that’s not the only difference between these two concepts. Because while pleasure is a temporary feeling, happiness is a state of mind that you achieve.

You’re happy when you feel that you are progressing with your life, achieving your goals and growing as a person. It happens because when you make progress in life you feel satisfied and proud of yourself. Not to mention that every single achievement improves your self-esteem and makes you realize that you are capable of much more than you think.

True happiness is self-created. You have the power, ability and capacity to create your own happiness but first, you need to take responsibility for your own experience. Your life is in your hands. But if you need some help to hack your happiness and boost your happy chemicals here is how you can easily do it.

2. Time Management Skills

What separates successful people from everyone else? The level of education? The expertise they possess? The type of work they perform? Or maybe it’s all about the luck?

Well, you might be surprised but none of these answers is correct.

The real difference between extremely successful and those who struggle to meet deadlines and produce intended results is that the successful learned to master the art of time management. Trivial as it may seem, controlling how they spend their time is what makes them successful.

Highly successful people know how to manipulate their time to reach their goals and accomplish their dreams within a specific timeframe. There is absolutely no coincidence with their actions. Every activity is well-planned, scheduled and properly organized. They know that time is the most important resource that they have so they make every minute count.

We all have the same 24 hours in a day. We just use them differently. Some of us are better in time management, others still trying to figure out their own productivity system. But one thing is sure: we can always improve. And for those who still trying to improve their time management skills and techniques, you will find the answer here

3. Goal Setting Skills

Every great achievement starts with the clarity of vision and well-defined life goals. Highly successful people know it very well so even when things don’t go as planned they don’t give up. Because winners never quit even if they fail on their way to success. They embrace failure and use it as a motivation to work even harder. Those who, on the contrary, struggle to even get out of bed after they have failed most likely don’t have a clear vision of their future. That’s why when things don’t go as they wanted they start thinking about giving up.

People who have a clear mental picture of who they want to be in the future work extremely hard to turn their vision into reality because they know that success is not obtained overnight. Real success is never a coincidence, but the result of hard work, self-discipline, continuous effort, enormous sacrifice, persistence, commitment to excellence and unwavering self-belief in one’s ability to achieve their life goals. So if you want to put yourself on the road to success you need to create a clear vision of your future, set smart goals, master self-discipline and work consistently to achieve what you want to achieve. Otherwise, your dreams will remain only your dreams.

4. Decisions-Making Skills

“Life is a matter of choices, and every choice you make makes you.”

Every minute of your day you make a decision. One decision after another. You choose everything you do. You do everything because you’ve chosen to. You choose action. You choose procrastination. You choose movement. And you choose stillness. You choose what to eat, how to behave and what to do with your life. Basically your whole life a big decision-making process, you just stopped paying attention to that.

Most of the decisions you make are part of your daily routine. They become your habits and rituals that you do automatically and non-consciously. And as long as, these unconscious decisions reinforce a healthy and positive lifestyle there’s nothing wrong with that. The problem starts when you live your life on autopilot without noticing it. Every day is pretty much the same and you’re not making any progress. If that’s your case, it means that it’s time for a change. It’s time to take your life to the next level.

Every single decision you make have the potential to change your whole life. But only the decisions you make consciously and deliberately can make your life better, happier and much more exciting.

Success is built on a conscious decision, commitment to your goals and massive action. In other words, you need to decide on what direction you want to go, fully commit to the journey and take the first step on your new life path.

5. Stress Management Skills

The unpredictability and uncertainty of our current situation can make you feel completely out of control, extremely anxious and stressed out. So if you feel this way, you should know that it’s quite normal. If “normal” is still a point of reference for us in this ever-changing world.

As human beings, we don’t like to be unsettled. We prefer order and stability because it gives us a sense of security, clarity and control. That’s why when chaos significantly prevails over order we feel extremely uncomfortable, confused, distressed and upset. At times like this, managing your stress levels becomes purely a matter of survival. Because only when you control your stress you can control the situation you’re in.

According to scientists a little bit of stress can actually be quite beneficial to you. But there is a huge difference between a little stress and chronic stress. The first type of stress has the potential to motivate you to work harder, while the second type of stress can easily harm your health. So if you feel that the level of your stress is too high it’s time to develop healthy stress management strategies in order to redirect stress into a powerful motivator. And to help you with that here are 13 powerful, simple and practical stress management techniques:

13 Powerful Stress Management Techniques

  1. Drop an f-bomb - it’s one of the most effective techniques for reducing overall body tension and psychological stress.
  2. Punch a pillow. Bit the hell out of it! - Pillow punching is a great technique for anger management especially if you’ve built up a lot of anger and rage in a relatively short period of time. Also screaming from the top of your lungs works remarkably well, however, if you’re living in a condo like me it may not be the best way (for legitimate reasons) to release tension and negative energy from your body.
  3. Keep a 5-minute journal
  4. Learn to deal with intrusive thoughts HERE
  5. Challenge your negative thinking using the mirror technique
  6. Use positive affirmations to boost your self-esteem and increase your confidence (make writing positive affirmations your evening habit!)
  7. Practice Mindfulness here
  8. Try relaxation Apps
  9. Do a quick deep breathing exercise (become aware of your breath)
  10. Try progressive muscle relaxation
  11. Try Guided Unwinding Mindfulness Meditation (guided meditations are fun and easy to follow!)
  12. Practice Gratitude (Practicing gratitude is a choice. You choose to appreciate what you have already. And trust me even now during the Coronavirus pandemic there are still plenty of things you can be thankful for. Besides, practicing gratitude when things are going wrong helps you to find positives in a negative situation)
  13. Talk to someone you can trust about your struggles (Talking to someone about your struggles is a great opportunity to release stress and tension from your body, refresh your thinking, gain a new point of view and in consequence look at your problem from a completely different perspective.)

6. Focus Skills

Our resources are limited. Time, energy, money, mental capacity, ATTENTION, physical space, willpower or even talents are ALL limited. This means that if say “YES” to one thing you automatically say “NO” to another thing. That’s why it is so important to choose wisely how you’re going to use all the resources you possess. Not to mention that if you spend time on things that don’t add value to your life you can’t focus on what’s truly important. You just don’t have time for that because you’re procrastinating.

Procrastination seduces us in many forms. It promises us gratification but it’s only instant gratification. It gives us pleasure but it’s only a temporary pleasure. It brings us temporary relief and restores illusionary comfort.

All of these „benefits” of procrastinating come at a price. Because when you’re focused on things that don’t add any value to your life you’re only wasting your time, energy, focus and most probably even your money. Correct me if I am wrong but I think that it’s an extremely high price to pay.

Life can be so much more than you can even imagine but you need to act on your dreams. Otherwise, your dreams will remain only your dreams and you will be only wasting your time. If you want to live a meaningful, fulfilling and successful life you need to learn to control your focus, build self-discipline and take massive action to get the intended results. Time management skills alone will not make you successful. To achieve your goals you need to control your focus.

7. Self-Motivation Skill

Struggling to motivate yourself to work hard? Well, you’re not the only one. There’s a reason so many people talk about how to build long-lasting motivation.

While there are many different ways to motivate yourself to follow through with your goals, one thing remains constant, and that’s the nature of motivation.

Motivation is a psychological phenomenon which generates within an individual. In other words, motivation comes from within and it’s self-created. So it is not something you can find outside yourself. And that’s probably the biggest misconception about the motivation that exists. Anything outside yourself that pushes you towards doing something is considered to be an inspiration rather than motivation.

Another great misconception about motivation is that motivation creates action, while it’s actually the other way around. It’s an action that creates motivation. That’s why the more you do, the harder you work on your goals the more motivated for success you become. It’s that simple. There is no philosophy in it, but willingness to achieve intended results

Motivation is your motive for action. It is the real reason why you get up in the morning and work hard to achieve your goals.

Motivation is the quality of consciousness and true commitment which is going to determine the effect that occurs. Or more simply, motivation is this internal force that makes you unstoppable.

Motivation is a reflection of your internal world, your inner energy, your life force flowing through your body. Once you learn to master it you will be able to achieve personal fulfilment and create a prospering life.

So how you can create long-lasting motivation? Well, start by answering these questions:

  • What’s your “WHY”
  • What’s your motive for action?
  • Why do you wake up in the morning?
  • Why do you want to achieve your goals?
  • How accomplishing your biggest goals would make you feel?

8. Problem-Solving Skill

“Hard times create strong men, strong men create good times, good times create weak men, and weak men create hard times.”

That we are living through hard times is quite clear for all to see. But what some may not realize is that difficult times create an opportunity for personal and professional growth. Whether we use this opportunity or not depends entirely on us.

It’s hard not to notice that 2020 doesn’t spoil us. Since the beginning of the year, a lot of strange, unexpected and shocking things have happened. Australian wildfires, 2020 stock market crash, COVID-19 pandemic, Oil prices reach a record low, the first crewed flight of the SpaceX Dragon 2, The George Floyd protests just to name a few. And we still have 2 months left to the New Year. In other words, a number of problems have arisen.

The truth is, the world is on the move, and new problems are always emerging. The only difference is that the intensity of how the problems arise has drastically increased in 2020. But it is also true that many new problems that we have right are not that new. They are old problems that we just swept under the rug instead of addressing them. It has now become clear that ignoring problems it’s never a good idea.

2020 is the year of personal and social transformation. We all have this incredible opportunity to not only find new solutions to the old problems but also to address new challenges that we’re all facing right now. But first, we need to improve our problem-solving skills and solve the problems that we have right now before they’re getting bigger. 2020 can be the beginning of a new era but only if we face the challenge.

9. Finance Skills

Money can’t buy happiness but they can buy financial freedom and open door to opportunities you didn’t have before. For instance, if you’re struggling financially you cannot afford the highest-ranked University even if you’ve got accepted, you’re not able to travel abroad and see the most beautiful sights for yourself, you cannot improve your healthy eating habits by adding more organic food products into your diet and you cannot afford major medical insurance.

All of these “can’t” causes a lot of stress, anxiety and worry. That’s why it is so important to take care of financial health and start building your future wealth right now. Your whole future depends on the financial decisions you take today.

The economic chaos caused by the coronavirus pandemic forces us to focus more on our financial situation. None of us can predict how long it will take for the economy to recover after the Pandemic that’s why planning our wealth, improving our financial literacy and focusing on developing habits for financial stability should be one of our top priorities.

2020 is the perfect time to improve your financial skills and to help you with that I’ve created an eBook titled “A Simple plan for your financial independence” and financial planner kit that you can purchase here. 10. Accountability Skill

Accountability is a Skill, not a Value. Without accountability for actions, there can be no progress nor achievement. Because if there is nothing or nobody that hold you accountable what’s the point of even get out of bed? If you carry no responsibility you can just observe how your life is just passing by. But if you are ambitious, you want to take full responsibility for your life because you know that it’s your chance to make the most of this incredible journey.

Responsibility is power. Responsibility is freedom. Responsibility is the key to success in both professional and personal life. So if you want to enhance your chances for success and stick to your most difficult goals you need to take responsibility for your actions. No more excuses or blaming others for your mistakes. No more minimizing your achievements. It’s time to create a clear system of rewards and consequences!

Stay positive, be mindful and level up your life!
