Change Is A Natural Part Of Life

With the Coronavirus outbreak now pandemic, the world became extremely chaotic, uncertain and almost unreal. All of a sudden everything changed. The entire world has changed. Our daily habits, customs and attitudes have changed. We had a different kind of Easter. We experience a strange mix of feelings that most of us didn’t know we could have until the Coronavirus outbreak became a pandemic. And we all ask the same question: Will everything back to normal?

Well, honestly I don’t think we will ever back to our old normal. I believe that there will be a “new normal” and we will need to adjust to it. But you know what’s even more important? That we can make this adjustment a positive one. It all depends on us individually and collectively.

Sure, we didn’t ask for THIS change. We didn’t expect it. It was forced upon us. I know, it’s tough. But the truth is, change is a natural part of the human condition. Without it, you would likely remain in the same place for your entire life. There would be no opportunity for self-improvement and personal growth. You would be stuck in life, reliving the same day over and over… Well, that’s not exciting at all.

Life is like a kaleidoscope, everything changes, nothing stands still. We never know what is going to happen next. Is it scary? Yes! But at the same time, it’s incredibly exciting! Change is not something you can avoid, ignore or deny. Of course, you can try it but it will only create pain and sorrow. A much better solution is to accept, embrace and adapt to change. If you find the courage to do that you will be able to create a positive adjustment and use these less-than-perfect circumstances to your advantage.

This change is an incredible opportunity for growth but “You have to be willing to grow. Growth is different from something that happens to you. You produce it. You live it. The prerequisites for growth: the openness to experience events and the willingness to be changed by them.”

The opportunity for growth is knocking at your door. Are you ready to open the door? Are you ready to create a positive adjustment and go after the life you want? If your answer is yes, here are my 5-step process to adjust positively to a massive change. It’s time to focus on what is in your control. It’s time to embrace change in a way that allows you to thrive. So without further ado, let’s get into this!

But before we start, I want to take a couple of minutes to self-reflect on your life.

Self-Reflection Questions:

  1. What my future self looks like?
  2. What would my future self say to me?
  3. What values do I want to embody?
  4. How do I want to feel?
  5. How do I want to present myself to the world?
  6. How do I want to live my life experience?
  7. What do I wish to contribute?
  8. What can I offer to others?
  9. What can I do to make a positive impact on the lives of others?
  10. How can I help others to adjust positively to this change?

1. Shift Your Mindset

Navigating change in chaotic and complex times like these is definitely not the easiest thing to do but it’s still doable. Furthermore, with the right attitude, you can make this experience not only much less stressful but also much more exciting. How you thrive at this moment is completely up to you.

You create your reality with the power of your thoughts, words and actions. You are in control of your life, time and day. You have the power to manage negativity and use it to your advantage but first, you need to adopt a positive mental attitude and realize that you are responsible for your own life.

The coronavirus pandemic is one of those situations that we cannot control and that’s the fact. But what we can control is how we respond to this dramatic situation. When the world around you seems insanely chaotic and incredibly uncertain it is easy to engage in negative thinking and obsess over worst-case scenarios, but it’s not how you make a positive adjustment to a massive change. Actually, it’s quite the opposite. If you want to thrive in chaotic and uncertain moments like these, you need to start thinking on positive terms.

Positive thinking and unconditional belief that you can get through this will help you to reach your full potential. And when you reach your full potential you will become unstoppable! So focus on creating a positive mental attitude. Because positive mental attitude leads to a positive outcome! Keep your head up! You got this!

2. Own Who You Are

We didn’t ask for this CHANGE. We didn’t expect it. It was forced upon us. We can fight it, or embrace it. The first option will lead you nowhere because if you resist change you will get stuck in a situation you don’t want to be and you will get more and more frustrated. If you choose the second option, instead, you will create your own opportunity to succeed in life.

Personally, I choose the second option. I choose not to blame the Pandemic crisis for ruining my plans for this year. Not that I don’t feel the need to do that, I just choose not to. I remember making plans, setting goals and intentions for 2020 in December last year. Well, we all did that. The Coronavirus outbreak, now Pandemic turned our lives around 180 degrees. And that’s the fact.

Now more than ever, blaming outside sources, playing the victim game and looking for excuses not to do what’s right, is extremely tempting. But at the same time, it does not solve any of our problems. Whether you want it or not you are going through a massive transition in life. But you have a choice. You can choose to create a positive or negative adjustment to this massive change. You can make turn this negative situation into a positive one or make this bad situation much worse. It all depends on you.

If you want to adjust to this change and create an opportunity to succeed in the very next future you need to take responsibility for your own life. The moment you accept full responsibility for your life you realize that you are in control. You are the creator of your own reality. So if your plan A failed it means that the Universe has bigger plans for you. It’s time to figure out what that plan is!

3. Cultivate More Self-Compassion

When nothing goes according to plan and life seems to be falling apart it is easy to engage in an endless loop of negative self-talk and obsess over worst-case scenarios. Actually, it’s probably the easiest thing to do but it’s not going to help you to solve your problems.

Facing difficulties, making the most of less-than-perfect circumstances, navigating change effectively and creating a positive adjustment to the new circumstances requires self-compassion and self-kindness. You cannot achieve any of these things if you keep putting yourself down with self-doubting thoughts.

We all have a little bit of self-doubt going on. We all struggle with some self-limiting beliefs right now. And that’s ok. We are only human. The pandemic crises, social isolation, quarantine and living under a total lockdown is not something we are used to, to say the least. So if you’re experiencing a strange mix of feelings right now, know that it’s quite normal.

Honestly, I don’t know one single person who wouldn’t feel that they are on an emotional roller coaster. And that’s okay. But what is not okay is to fuel your negative self-talk and punish yourself for not feeling 100% during the worldwide crises. That’s not going to help you.

If you want to navigate THIS change (that was forced upon us) effectively you need to turn your negative self-talk into a more productive inner dialogue, start validating yourself and show yourself a little bit of compassion. You deserve to hear the words of encouragement. Everything you need to get through this particularly tough time is already within you. It’s time to notice that!

4. Push Through Discomfort

I’ve been pretty positive for the majority of the time since we’ve been in isolating mostly because I am used to spend entire days at home working on my computer. That’s why the prospect of staying at home in self-quarantine wasn’t really all that scary. However, there was another problem to deal with: FEAR OF THE UNKNOWN. As this problem appeared to grow worse I start feeling paralyzed by UNCERTAINTY. And I don’t know one single person that wouldn’t feel the same way.

As human beings, we don’t like to be unsettled. We don’t like to not know what is going to happen next. We prefer stability over change (even potentially positive change). We prefer order above chaos. Furthermore, most of us intrinsically think that order means “good” and chaos means “bad” but the truth is life is a mix of order and chaos we just tend to ignore it. Well, we used to ignore it because with the COVID-19 outbreak now a pandemic, the world became so chaotic and turbulent that we cannot even hope to predict what is going to happen next.

The future is unknown. But if you think about it, the future is ALWAYS unknown. We all try to plan out life and control every aspect of it but the truth is, we truly never know what is going to happen next or what is meant to be until it surprises us. We create this illusion of having everything in life under our control because it gives us this positive feeling of certainty. But at the end of the day, we know that it’s just an illusion.

The world is always in motion. Life is constantly changing. Things are always evolving. Nothing stands still. We ourselves are constantly changing as we move through life. And that’s the beauty of life. A massive life change is scary but also extremely exciting. But to be able to feel the adrenaline and excitement about the upcoming change, first, you need to accept the fear of the unknown.

Fear of the unknown it’s natural but it does not mean that we should just give in to this fear, surrender to our fate whatever that would be and spend this time in standby waiting for events. Because that would be a terrible waste of life. A much better solution is to accept that you are scared and keep pushing through discomfort. Discomfort is the key to your personal growth. Accept it. Get comfortable with feeling uncomfortable. Choose growth over comfort and you will succeed in life.

5. Prepare For The Lack Of Stability

"For time and the world do not stand still. Change is the law of life. And those who look only to the past, or the present, are certain to miss the future."

John F. Kennedy Tweet

Most people prefer living a stable and predictable life because it gives them the illusion of having everything under control. They avoid changes as much as possible because the idea of lack of stability makes them incredibly uncomfortable. What they don’t realize is that life is a constant balancing act.

Life is a mix of chaos and order, stability and craziness, balance and imbalance, success and failure and everything in between. Life is a crazy journey, a roller coaster drive. One minute, you’re on top, the next you’re at the bottom.

The purpose of the ride, however, remains the same, that is to challenge you, bring out the best in you, inspire you to do great things, reignite your creative spark, motivate you to find your calling so that you can create a meaningful life. But to be able to make the most of this crazy journey called life you need to be open to change, a temporary loss of stability, new challenges and new opportunities so that you can make the most of them when they present themselves.

Your life is in your hands. You create your own reality with the power of your thoughts, words and actions. So make THIS change an opportunity to grow as a person. Let go of the things that don’t serve you any more so you can attract more of what you really need. Take ownership of your own life, create a positive adjustment to the “new normal” and THRIVE
