Own Your Future

So it happened. You feel you need a major life change to feel fully fulfilled and content with your life again. You want to change your life but you don’t know where and how to start.

I’ve got a solution for you. Or even better, I have a 5-Step formula for success in changing your life for the better that you’ve been looking for.

We both know that you’re meant for something bigger on this planet and now it’s time to go for it!

So take a deep breath because you’re life is about to change for the better!

5 Steps To Change

  1. Start with a conscious DECISION to challenge the status quo so the whole process of personal transformation can start
  2. Create a crystal clear VISION of your future self to identify where you are headed
  3. Develop a growth (and positive ) MINDSET to make your success possible
  4. Take massive ACTION to make this change happen
  5. Hold yourself ACCOUNTABLE and be consistent with your actions to get results

STEP 1: Make A Deliberate Decision

Every change starts with a conscious decision to challenge the status quo that doesn’t make you fulfilled and content anymore. You are frustrated with the current circumstances in life. The sense of dissatisfaction is only growing and you feel deep inside that you can thrive in life, not just survive You feel you’re meant for something bigger on this planet. So you make a decision to change your life to feel fully fulfilled, happy and content. And the whole process of personal transformation begins…

Perform A Life Audit

The next step in the process of changing your life for the better is to perform a mindful life audit. The purpose of this self-reflective practice is to calm down the external noise, eliminate distractions and focus on what’s truly important – yourself.

Conducting a life audit will help you to truly understand who you are, how you feel about your present situation and what areas of your life may be in need of change so that you can feel fully fulfilled and content with your life.

To make the most of your life audit you need to be 100% honest with yourself, pay attention to your feelings, listen carefully to your inner voice and take notes. Then you can use these notes to organize your ideas and set crystal clear outcomes so that know what to focus on.

Areas Of Life To Consider While Doing A Life Audit

  1. Daily Life (habits, rituals, daily routines)
  2. Physical Health (nutrition, workout routine, quality rest)
  3. Mental Health (mindset, mental focus)
  4. Spirituality (connection with your higher self, understanding that you are part of something bigger)
  5. Personal Growth (education, personal development, self-improvement goals)
  6. Environment / Personal Space (comfortable and safe home, resources)
  7. Relationships (relationships bond)
  8. Wealth & Finance (relationship with money, financial situation, financial habits)
  9. Career / Job (satisfaction With Work, responsibilities, projects)
  10. Digital Space (technology usage, social media, online persona)
  11. Fun & Adventure (“me time”, Hobbies & Fun)
Questions To Ask Yourself
  1. What are the areas of life I want to change and why?
  2. What is the reason why I want to make these changes? (my motive for action)
  3. How these (small or big) changes will impact my overall life?
  4. How do I want to feel?
  5. What do I need to do to thrive in my life not just surviving?
  6. How can I improve life satisfaction?

Step 2: Create A Vision

After successfully identifying the factors that affect your life dissatisfaction and choosing the area(s) of life you want to upgrade, it’s time to set a vision of your future. An inspiring and captivating image of your future self will help you to create a clear sense of purpose, increase your motivation for higher performance and boost your inspiration to take action.

When setting a vision for your life start with a big picture of what do you want to achieve, who do you you want to become and how do you want to feel within a particular area of life you want to improve. Be specific and make your ideas as clear as possible.

To establish a clear vision that will inspire you to take massive action on your goals you need to become 100% honest with yourself about where you are and get crystal clear on where you want to be. Because only by defining precisely your transformation starting point along with the specific result you want to achieve you will be able to find the pathway to success.

Find Inspiration To Change Your Life

Once you’ve done a mindful life audit and you know exactly what area of your life is in need of change, it’s time to get inspired. Inspiration will help you to get started and keep going when obstacles such as lack of motivation, self-limiting beliefs and irrational fears appear. So find your source of inspiration that will motivate you to get up early and work hard (and smart) to change your life.

Inspiration is a powerful tool to make a massive change in life. Just think about famous fitness personal trainers such as Kayla Itsines or Tracy Anderson who not only inspire millions of people around the world to start working out but motivate them to keep a consistent workout schedule (me included) to get the intended results faster.

That’s why the fitness industry is constantly growing despite gyms being closed around the world. People want to make healthier decisions, feel good about themselves and ditch the sedentary lifestyle and famous fitness trainers help them (us) to achieve all of that.

So when planning a serious life change look for a source of inspiration. Find the person (online or real-world), idea or even quote that will inspire you to do the work.

Set Crystal Clear Goals

Once you found your source of inspiration and created a clear mental picture of who do you want to be in the near future, it’s time to set goals that will help you to turn your vision into reality.

But don’t just choose some random goals for things you want to do, change and improve in your life because that’ll not keep you motivated. Instead, set cristal clear, inspiring and exciting goals for your personal transformation. The ones that will be worth your time and effort. Dream big, but keep it realistic.

So, for instance, you want to ditch a sedentary lifestyle because you know that it’s not good for your health, wellbeing and energy levels. You start thinking about buying a gym membership because all of your friends already have it. But the problem is, you hate the gym and you know you won’t find the motivation to go there regularly. And that’s ok.

There are many different ways to boost your activity levels and get in shape that has nothing to do with purchasing a gym membership. Find a fun way to get that 30 minutes of physical activity every single day. You can start dancing, trampolining, riding a bike, hiking with friends, rock climbing or even pretend the floor is lava. Don’t limit yourself, choose the type of physical activity you will love practising.

Define Your Intentions

An intention is your conscious “WHY”, your motive for action, a true reason why you want to achieve a specific goal. You need THIS “WHY” to be able to push through mental and physical obstacles when they occur. And we all know that sooner or later some challenges will appear. But when it happens you will be prepared and equipped with INTENTIONS - your MOTIVE for action and the reason WHY you want to achieve your goals.

For instance, your goal may be to earn more money but the reason for this may be to impress your friends or to support your spouse who has some financial problems. The first reason is weak because it’s not genuine, it creates unhealthy competition and feeds your ego. The second reason is strong because it’s authentic, well-thought, and pretty admirable. So, which of these reasons do you think would help you to stay on track with your goal when obstacles arise? The second one, of course!

So when setting the intentions behind your goals opt for strong reasons and an authentic motive for action.

  1. Identifying the exact reason why you want to achieve a specific goal (a particular result of your daily actions)
  2. Start with the feeling or state you want to achieve once a specific goal is accomplished
  3. Think about how achieving a specific goal will change your life (your current version of yourself)
  4. Write your thoughts down on a piece of paper

Create A Mind Map Of Your Change

Creating a mind map of your lifestyle change will help you visually collect knowledge, consolidate information from different sources, create crystal clear ideas, narrow down your goals and redirect your focus on your top priorities. But there’s more a mind map if done nicely can become a powerful source of inspiration that will keep you going when obstacles appear and you will be close to giving up.

Because let’s face it, at some point problems will appear, moments of hopelessness will happen, the feeling of powerless will come and you will be faced with a decision about whether or not you should continue the process of your personal transformation. And when all that difficult stuff happens the mind map of your change, your source of inspiration, your visual motivation will help you to make a good decision that is to keep moving forward to achieve your goals.

"You may never know what results come of your actions, but if you do nothing, there will be no results."

Mahatma Ghandi Tweet

Step 3: Develop A Growth Mindset

Overcome Self-Doubt

It may not be a popular opinion but I think that it’s quite normal (and healthy) to have a little bit of self-doubt going on when making big life changes. Because changing your life means exploring new concepts and experimenting with different routines, testing out new ideas and doing lots of things for the first time. Or in other words – venturing deep outside your comfort zone.

If you think about it, every change in your normal routine small or big requires you to step outside your comfort zone and stretching your boundaries to the point you feel really uncomfortable. And when we feel uncomfortable we cannot feel 100% secure and confident at the same time. Those are mutually exclusive.

So if you have a little bit of self-doubt going on don’t beat yourself up for having these feelings. Instead recall that discomfort is part of personal growth. When we are uncomfortable, it’s a sign we are starting a growth process. Discomfort is a feeling of the ego trying to keep us stagnate.

But the good news is that you can overcome self-doubt and boost your confidence at the same time. All you have to do is to take action. Action is the remedy for self-doubt. You need to prove to yourself that you can achieve your goals and the only way to do that is to take intentional action. Even a small step in the right direction has the power to reduce your self-doubt!

Act Despite Fear Of Failure

Oftentimes we get a brilliant idea of our next project, we’re excited about the challenge and confident about the result but then something that blocks us happens. That “something” is our fear of failure.

Suddenly all the excitement fades away, our vision becomes blurry and we start thinking that we lack the skills, abilities and resources required to bring our goal to fruition. So instead of taking action, we start convincing ourselves that it’s better to not start something that isn’t meant to happen. As a result, we abandon our project because we let fear stop us from pursuing our dream.

Fear of failure can be paralyzing - it can make you hesitate to take action so long that you choose not to do anything “for your own good”. Because it’s better to stay safe than cope with defeat right? Well, not really.

The truth is, your fear of failing is terrifying until you realize that it’s just an illusion of the mind. You’re afraid of things that haven’t even happened yet and the truth is, they may never happen. But you choose the worst-case scenario to protect yourself from a potential catastrophe. If you think about it, obsessing about what can go wrong is like failing ahead of time.

So instead of assigning your fear more power than it actually has, accept that something may go wrong during the process of achieving your goal. And when it happens you will turn that failure into a powerful lesson, change your strategy, adjust your mindset and start again. After every failure, you come back stronger than ever before!

"Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up."

Create A Favorable Environment

The environment you’re in can either support or sabotage your success in achieving goals. You may not be aware of that but the energy you surround yourself, the people you spend your time with, the content you consume on a daily basis, your habits, your thoughts, the tone of your inner dialogue – everything affects your chances of succeeding in life.

For this reason, if you want to become successful in achieving your goals and take your life to the next level you need to become aware of what energy you surround yourself with. A positive environment and optimistic people will bring the best in you making the process of upgrading your life way easier and much more pleasurable. They will inspire you, push you to become a better person, give you hope, and empower you to succeed. While negative environment and toxic people will sabotage your success, steal your happiness, and distract you from achieving your goals.

Surround yourself with positive energy and create a supportive environment to achieve your goals. Find your tribe, your people with whom you connect, share your joys and sorrow, celebrate your achievements and grow. Get rid of negativity, make small changes in your environment (if needed) and your chances of achieving your goals will skyrocket!

The size of your success is measured by the strength of your desire; the size of your dream; and how you handle disappointment along the way.

Step 4: Act Before You Are Ready

Organize Your Life Around Your Goals

Many times we see only the result of someone’s work. What we don’t see is the process of achieving a goal, which can give the impression that big achievements happen overnight. Which is simply untrue.

Success is never a coincidence but the result of hard work, continuous effort, enormous sacrifice, persistence and unwavering self-belief in one’s ability to achieve their goals. So, if you want to be successful you need to organize your daily life around your goals. And what better way to do that than by creating a daily routine, powerful habits and rituals?

Daily routine, rituals and powerful habits will not only keep you on track with your goals but also will create momentum in your day. Not to mention that a well-planned and organized day will save you time, energy, stress and in most cases also money.

Routine creates consistency and consistency is the key to success in turning your dream into reality. Without conscious and constant effort nothing great will be achieved. Every single day you should do something, small or big that will get you one step closer to your goal, track your progress, and celebrate small wins daily.

It's in responsibility that most people find the meaning that sustains them through life. It's not in happiness. It's not in impulsive pleasure.

5 Step: Hold Yourself Accountable

Take Full Responsibility For Your Life

Once you’re officially an ‘adult’, you are the only one responsible for your life. So whether you still live with your parents who pay the bills, or you are completely on your own YOU ARE FULLY RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR LIFE. This means, that if you want to change your life, you need to do it yourself. No one will do it for you. No one will increase your life satisfaction for you. No one will build a prosperous business for you. No one will get a degree for you. No one will live your life for you. (that’s actually a good thing).

You have the power to achieve your goals, reach your dreams and build an awesome life you’ve always wanted but first, you need to take responsibility for yourself and your present experience. Your future is in your hands. So don’t wait for others to change your life for you. Your life is YOUR responsibility. And remember “It is only when you take responsibility for your life that you discover how powerful you truly are”

“Treat yourself like you are someone you are responsible for helping.”

Jordan Peterson Tweet

Create Your Accountability System

Holding yourself accountable is more than just being responsible for your actions and the consequences they have - it means being proactive (actively creating your life) and taking action before you feel like it. Because waiting for motivation to strike you before you put yourself in motion leads to procrastination. And procrastination is the thief of time.

Feeling insanely motivated and inspired before you take action is wonderful, but extremely rare. Especially when it comes to long-term goals that you have to work towards during a long period of time.

So instead of relying on motivation to reach your goals and change your life, figure out what you have to do to hold yourself accountable for the choices you make and the consequences they bring. Manage yourself and commit to daily work to reach your goals.
