2020

2020. A year of chaos. A year of contrasts. A year of lost expectations. A year of new opportunities. A year of personal transformation. A year of social movements. A year of taking responsibility for your own life and the future of the whole society. A year of major changes. A year of losing and regaining control. A year of great spiritual awakening. 

2020 has changed everything. Our perception of time. Our idea of modern society. Our understanding of prosperity. Our habits. Our attitude. Our way of thinking. 

If there had never been 2020 we would never even take into consideration to rethink our perspective on life. 

The end of 2020 is our time to fully choose who we truly are and in what direction we want to go as individuals and as a society. 

The time has come to rethink your choices, reanalyze your actions, break from traditional paths, reshape your life and redefine the relation between individual and society. 

2020 is our undeniable chance to build a better world for us as a human race. 

As individuals and as a society we are:

Facing a CHOICE

Having a CHANCE

Embracing CHANGE

1. Regain Control

If I had to choose one sentence to describe how 2020 makes me feel I would say that “it feels like being hit by a freight train over and over again.” Just when you think it’s getting better, that’s when it strikes back with a vengeance. There isn’t a moment of peace. Not to mention that mass media do everything they can to fuels fear and panic trying to make us believe that there’s literally nothing we can control about this situation.

Well, there’s always something you can do to fix, change or improve the situation you’re in even if it has been entirely caused by external factors. But to be able to do that you need to stop reacting and start responding to the events that are happening. Because “Life is like a business, 20% of what happens to you is 80% of how you react.” So tell me how you’re using this 80%? Are you trying to respond instead of reacting to these less-than-perfect circumstances? Or maybe you feel paralyzed, disempowered and demoralized by all the difficult emotions that you experience, like most of us, from the beginning of the year?

If the latter, then you should pause, take a deep breath and examine your emotional state. Because only when you identify and understand your emotions you will be able to use them to your advantage and respond properly to the situation you’re in. In other words, “Learn to use your emotions to think, not think with your emotions.” Don’t let difficult emotions to disempower you, instead use them to your advantage and take intentional action. Because it’s not how you feel but what you do about it matters. Emotions create action. So learn to control your emotions and you will regain control over your life. 

2. Unlock The Power Of Creation

We create meaning. Yet nothing has meaning alone. We create meaning and we bring it to life. Things are just ordinary items and people are just random social beings before we give them a very specific meaning. That’s why our interpretations of the seemingly ‘same’ things are so different. 

We create stories and narratives to make sense of the world. We create words to describe our experience. We create our storytelling that directly affects our state of mind and personal well-being. This basically means that stories and narratives we make up to describe what we perceive through our five senses can trigger pleasant emotions like joy or happiness or unpleasant feelings like anger, fear or sadness.

As pleasant emotions tend to do no harm even if they have nothing to do with the real situation (the present moment) the trouble starts when your dramatic storytelling causes negative emotions that create suffering that wasn’t even there at the beginning. Sounds crazy right? 

So what is the lesson here? Well, probably that we should always pay attention to the vocabulary we use to describe a particular experience we have. Because the same situation can be described in many different ways. You can use the same situation to create a horrifying or quite neutral narrative. It all depends on your imagination and intention that you have. So basically you can manipulate the situation through words you use to describe it.

Sometimes our situation is not as bad as we describe it, and in other moments it’s pretty tough but we can use the power of words to raise morale. It does help a little bit even when things seem hopeless… there’s always hope. 

We have the potential to create our reality through the words we use and action we decide to take. We create meaning and purpose in our daily lives. 

3. Grow Into Responsibility

Freedom means responsibility. Freedom means dignity. Freedom means having a choice. Freedom means being able to live your truth. Freedom means having the right to stand up for yourself. Freedom means being conscious and aware to choose what you pay attention to. Freedom means being able to choose your way of thinking. Freedom means that you have the right to express your opinion. Seems self-explanatory, right? So why so many people still do not understand that? Or maybe they do understand the concept but they try to manipulate it so it fits their narrative.

Because somewhere along the way we completely forgot that with our rights come responsibilities. Because we’re not only responsible for our own life but also the future of our society. Unless you plan to spend the rest of your life in self-isolation somewhere in the desert. But if not, there’s something we should all take into consideration. Our responsibility to create a better society.

It’s hard not to notice that the world became a chaotic, uncertain, violent, aggressive and hostile place. When? Well, probably when we were all focused entirely on ourselves instead of paying a bit of attention to the outside world. And don’t get me wrong, focusing on our own self-improvement is extremely important however it should not happen at the expense of our common good.

Because as individuals we are still part of the society and as a society, we should rise above divisions and differences and start creating a better future for all of us. So think about how can you contribute to society. Ask yourself what you can do to make the world a better place. 

4. Choose Authenticity

2020 is the year of chaos, uncertainty, contrasts, unpredictability and doubt. But it is also a year of self-awakening, rediscovering lost values and getting back to basics. The year of reclaiming our true power and cracking down all the fakeness and the illusion we bought into many years ago. We got lost in a fake world of our own creation and now it’s time to find the way out.

With everything that’s happened, I can’t help but feel like we’ve been forced by some higher force to confront our past, make a self-examination and really think through our major decisions and everyday choices. And it’s already happening. We are slowly waking up from sleep and freeing ourselves from deep illusions. We are starting to recognize a difference between artificial and real, authentic and false, valuable and worthless.

2020 is the year when we finally understood that materialism is a disease of modern civilisation. It’s a system that eats us from inside out and makes us feel miserable. Materialism is an illusion of happiness that makes us unhappy. So maybe it’s time for a reality check before this artificial happiness remove the last hope of creating the real one? Because if you want to live a happy, fulfilling and meaningful life you need to develop authenticity and embrace your true self. 

5. Hack Your Happiness

True happiness is coming from inside and it’s self-created. What comes from the outside world and it’s entirely dependent on external factors it’s not happiness but pleasure. And that’s not the only difference between these two concepts. Because while pleasure is a temporary feeling, happiness is a state of mind that you achieve.

You’re happy when you feel that you are progressing with your life, achieving your goals and growing as a person. It happens because when you make progress in life you feel satisfied and proud of yourself. Not to mention that every single achievement improves your self-esteem and makes you realize that you are capable of much more than you think.

True happiness is self-created. You have the power, ability and capacity to create your own happiness but first, you need to take responsibility for your own experience. Your life is in your hands. 6. Commit To Conscious Self-Growth

“Change is inevitable, but personal growth is a choice.”

Today’s society places a lot of emphasis on formal education, which, in and of itself, is a great thing. At the same time, however, we should not underestimate the importance of self-education. Because while earning a degree will certainly advance your career, you should not forget that formal education is strictly limited to specific knowledge, skills and abilities. As for the autodidactism, the benefits go beyond career advancement.

Learning doesn’t end when your formal education does – actually, it’s exactly when true learning, developing your skills and improving your personality begins. This process is called-personal growth and it has nothing to do with school.

Personal growth is a lifelong process of transforming your life, improving yourself and evolving as a person. Furthermore, committing to a conscious self-growth is a choice you need to make if you want to live a happy, successful and meaningful life. There are no shortcuts to success. Only hard work, self-discipline and commitment to self-growth.
