It's A Muscle, Not A Gene
Nobody is born productive. Just like nobody is born lazy. So you cannot blame it on the genes. Both characteristics are nothing but a set of habits, learned skills and results of decisions you make on a daily basis. Thus if you thought that you procrastinate because you lack the productivity gene you’re wrong. But the good news is that you can become an insanely productive and successful person if that’s what you want. Of course, it will not happen overnight because personal transformation takes time, and it’s never linear. But with the right attitude, positive mindset and some good strategy you can become the most productive person you know. I mean, this is completely up to you. And if you need some guidance, useful tips and powerful hacks to maximize your productivity levels I’m here to help you with that. So without further ado, let’s get into the business. It’s time to start practising your productivity muscle!
'Time is a currency you can only spend once, so be careful how you spend it.'

Productivity Is A Set Of Habits
I feel the need to emphasise that everyone is different and unique. Thus, there’s no such thing as “one fits all” strategy to maximize productivity levels of every single person. However, there are many brilliant and incredibly effective tools, tips and hacks that you can try out and choose what works for you and what’s not.
I, for example, had to dedicate some time to understand how my mind works and develop my own productivity system that will help me to increase my brain powers, and I suggest you do the same. Because only you will know what works best for you. So be courageous, adventurous and open to the new experience. Try as many methods, tools, apps and hacks that you want, choose those that work for you and create your own productivity system. Don’t overcomplicate. Make it simple, easy to follow and exciting to avoid being overwhelmed and bored. And if you look for inspiration here is my productivity system that consists of various habits.
To make it more clear and comprehensive I decided to divide these habits into two basic groups:
- Habits that will help you to control your time and become a badass at time management
- Habits that will help you to control your environment and induce flow state with ease
FIRST STEP: Become A Badass At Time Management
Most highly productive self-motivated and successful entrepreneurs start their day at 6 am or even earlier because it gives them enough time to perform their powerful morning rituals, revise their prioritized to-do list and drink their bullet coffee in peace. They use their calendar to block time and schedule their days down to the minute because they understand the value of time. They know how to combine hard work with smart work and most importantly they know how to get more things done in less time. How they do it? Well, by using the right time management techniques. What are these techniques you will find below
- Plan your day in advance
- Set clearly defined goals, break them into small accountable steps and set deadlines
- Organize your day around your goals
- Make a prioritized to-do list
- Schedule your tasks properly
- Batch similar tasks together
- Make a not-to-do list (tasks and activities that you can delegate or delete form your to-do list)
- Use the Eisenhower Box to identify your top priorities and avoid urgency trap
- Start your day off right
- Create and maintain powerful morning routine
- Develop morning rituals to make your motivation flow effortlessly
- Set a positive mood for the entire day
- Follow the 80/20 rule
- The Pareto Principle, also known as the rule 80/20 developed by the Italian economist Vilfredo Pareto states that 20% of your actions or the activities produce 80% of the outcomes. That means that if you manage to identify that 20% correctly you will spend more time doing the right things and as a consequence, you will see better results sooner compared to your current working approach. If you want to know how does the Pareto Principle apply to time management, John Rapton explains this perfectly in his post that you can read here.

SECOND STEP: Be In A Flow With Environment
Dealing with distraction and interruptions while working at home is quite challenging but not impossible. It all depends on how you approach it. From my personal experience, I can tell you that, if you’re not used to working remotely you will need to set up a functional workspace and develop an effective strategy to deal with distractions, time-wasters and all the unnecessary decisions that deplete your willpower early on. Because if you don’t do it you will be reaching for your phone, checking emails, scrolling through social media accounts, watching Netflix, responding to messages, mindlessly snacking and doing anything besides working. And this is exactly what you want to avoid, right?
So choose a designed workspace, create favourable conditions, decrease the level of distractions to a minimum, choose a time blocking method that works for you, plan your daily tasks, make your health your number 1 priority and start your “work from home” journey! Remember that you are in CONTROL of your life, day and work.
- Plan against distractions
- Discover the real cost of procrastination
- Stay away from social media during your work hours
- Turn off notifications
- Create a „Distraction Notebook” and collect your intrusive and distractive thoughts immediately

- Improve your communication skills
- Being able to communicate effectively is the most important of all life skills. That’s why you should learn to express yourself clearly, speak openly about your needs, listen attentively and encourage others to do so. This is the way to build strong (and healthy) relationships and make an emotional connection with your “tribe”. But even if you live alone, strong communication skills are what will help you to achieve success in life.
