1. Start Your Day Off Right
Most highly motivated, productive and successful entrepreneurs start their day at 6 am or even earlier because it gives them enough time to perform their powerful morning routine, revise their to-do list and drink their coffee in peace instead of doing all of these things on the run. They start their day on their own terms because they know that it will help them to approach their workday much more ambitiously. They take full responsibility for their life, words and actions. They set themselves up for success before they start their workday. There is nothing casual about how a successful, self-motivated and highly productive person approach their workday. So if you want your productivity to skyrocket and your motivation to flow effortlessly every single morning you need to create a sense of stability and balance in your life. In other words, you need to establish structure and a routine. A solid daily routine will help you to feel more in control of your life, day and work. So don’t rely on your morning sleepy mood to guide you throughout the day. Instead, craft your very own daily morning routine that will help you to approach a day much more ambitiously. Start your day in your own terms and set yourself up for a successful, productive and positive day!

2. Plan Your Day In Advance
If you want to feel inspired, motivated and energized in the morning plan your day the night before. Don’t rely on your morning sleepy mood to guide you because the chances of you feeling insanely motivated and ready to smash your day without a plan are relatively low. Unless you are extremely good at improvisation and embracing the morning chaos. Although, technically, a good improvisation requires some preparation, fluency, and knowledge. So whether you prefer to have everything planned out or you just go with the (morning) flow you will have to have some sort of plan to guide your day otherwise you will be wasting your time and energy on unimportant tasks and unnecessary decisions. Whereas, an effective plan will help you to determine both the direction and time of the day. So as you can see, with a little planning, you will be able to design your own perfect day for productivity, creativity, and motivation. So every single evening take some time to create your schedule and make a powerful to-do list that will help you get through the next day in a productive and exciting way! Remember to:
- Plan Your Days According to 3 x 8h rule (8h of work, 8h of productive “me time”, 8h of quality rest. Split your day into 3 parts and you will create a sacred equilibrium, a perfect balance of your mind, body, and spirit.
- Create a Prioritized To-Do List
- Set 3 MITS - the most important tasks (get them knocked out in the early morning, as soon as you can when your mind is fresh)
- Set SMART Goals & Deadlines
- Design an Action Plan for Your Goals

3. Create The Perfect Workspace
Dealing with distraction and interruptions while working at home is quite challenging but not impossible. It all depends on how you approach it. From my personal experience, I can tell you that, if you’re not used to working remotely you will need to set up a functional workspace and develop an effective strategy to deal with distractions, time-wasters and all the unnecessary decisions that deplete your willpower early on. Because if you don’t do it you will be reaching for your phone, checking emails, scrolling through social media accounts, watching Netflix, responding to messages, mindlessly snacking and doing anything besides working. And this is exactly what you want to avoid, right?
So choose a designed workspace, create favourable conditions, decrease the level of distractions to a minimum, choose time blocking method that works for you, plan your daily tasks and start your “work from home” journey! Remember that you are in CONTROL of your life, day and work.
4. Eliminate Non-Critical Decisions
How many unnecessary decisions and non-critical choices do you make every single day? And more importantly, how are much valuable time and energy you could save if you eliminated unnecessary tasks? I bet you could free up 1-2 hours every single day just by getting rid of some non-critical decisions such as what to wear, what to eat, what to read, what Netflix show to watch, when to workout and all that.
We tend to attach great importance to completely irrelevant things instead of focusing on what’s really important for us. And then we realize it, it’s usually too late because we wasted the greater part of our day doing absolutely nothing meaningful and now it’s time for bed. That’s crazy and incredibly unproductive. Don’t let small non-critical decisions to destroy your productivity instead get rid of as many as you can and use the extra time to do something meaningful. Focus on your priorities instead of wasting your precious time and energy on things that contribute absolutely nothing to your life. Set up a highly personalized daily routine, that will create a balance and structure in your day and regain control over your day, time and work.
5. Stop Multitasking
It’s a high time to rid ourselves of this misconception about multitasking. Although we can focus on two or more activities at the same time, it is impossible to concentrate on two completely different tasks simultaneously. Just think about it. You probably snack while binge eating Netflix or listen to music while washing the dishes because it makes it less boring and more entertaining, right? But as much as doing all of these things don’t require your full and undivided attention you’ve probably noticed that if you pay more attention to eating than watching you easily miss important details and quickly lose track of what is actually happening in the movie. And we are talking here about the simplest activities.
Although divided attention can be improved with practice it is still not possible for the human brain to process more that one task at a time. Multitasking is incredibly overrated and has nothing to do with productivity. Furthermore, doing more than one thing at a time actually decreases your productivity and kill your focus. So instead of managing it all, focus on only one task at a time and you will be surprised how quickly and easily you will accomplish that.
6. Get In The Flow
Achieve a heavy sense of concentration, increase your sense of clarity and tap into your motivation through intentional action. Stop thinking and start doing. Seriously put yourself in motion and start producing real results. Overthinking and overanalyzing not only prevents you from taking action but also makes every situation much more complex than it ever needs to be. If you want to achieve your goals you need to stop creating worst-case scenarios and start taking action towards your goals! Seriously stop thinking and start doing! Stop negotiating with yourself, instead, eliminate all external and internal distractions, put the right kind of music (I usually listen to mindfulness music for deep focus and concentration with binaural beats) and start working towards achieving your goals. Enter into that hypnotic state where creativity flows effortlessly and start achieving your goals!
7. Communicate Effectively
Working from home can be quite challenging especially if you don’t live alone. Because let’s face it, staying focused, being productive and working efficiently when you share an apartment with family or friends is definitely not the easiest thing to do. But you can make it work with a little bit of willingness, patience and effective communication skills it can work surprisingly well. It’s all about respect and personal boundaries. Effective communication is natural however it does require a little bit of practice. So if you work from home that you share with your family or friends you need to focus on improving your communication skills. Furthermore, you and your “roommates” have to set some positive communication rules for the house so that everyone feels safe and respected. Of course, you will have to learn to compromise and accept that others are entitled to different opinions but aren’t those basic rules of life in a society? Being able to communicate effectively is the most important of all life skills. That’s why you should learn to express yourself clearly, speak openly about your needs, listen attentively and encourage others to do so. This is the way to build strong (and healthy) relationships and make an emotional connection with your “tribe”. But even if you live alone, strong communication skills are what will help you to achieve success in life.
8. Prioritize Your Health
Are you getting enough sleep, nourishing yourself with healthy food and working out on a daily basis? Or maybe you constantly sacrifice your sleep to get more things done during the day, eat pre-prepared junk food and struggle with reaching 10,000 steps a day? Are you take good care of yourself or neglect your health? Are you making your health your priority? If not, it’s time to change this. Because if you want to be a highly productive, self-motivated and ridiculously focused on your goals you need to prioritize your health and wellbeing. Otherwise, you won’t be able to reach your full potential and live life on your own terms. It seems pretty obvious, right? So stop making excuses for not eating healthy, not working out and not getting enough sleep on a regular basis. Put yourself on your priority list. Slow down and take good care of yourself. Plan your meals in advance, stock your fridge with healthy food, schedule your daily workouts, meditate every day, start journaling, practice gratitude, get quality sleep on a regular schedule. Stop making excuses and start taking good care of yourself. Because if you fuel your body with nutrient-dense food, get good sleep and workout on a regular basis the chances that you’re going to perform better at work are extremely high. But don’t take my word for it. Try it for yourself!

9. Take Powerful Breaks
Fitting relaxation in a busy schedule can be quite challenging but it’s crucial for maintaining your physical health and emotional wellbeing. Not to mention that quick, powerful breaks during your working day drastically improve the levels of productivity and efficiency in your work. That’s why time blocking techniques are so effective. I am sure you’ve heard about the Pomodoro Technique, that is probably the most famous and effective time management system that has ever been invented. Why is it so effective? Well, because it’s simple. And simplicity is the key to success in both professional and personal life. So if you haven’t already tried the Pomodoro Technique to improve your work performance now it’s time to do that! It’s a life-changer. However, there is much different time blocking methods out there and it’s up to you to choose. The idea is the same, you work with the time you have—rather than against it. So plan your workday appropriately so that you may be as effective as possible. Break your daily tasks into cycles of work blocks separated by short breaks and use those breaks to reset your mindset. Trust me, these short mindset resets throughout the day will help you skyrocket your productivity.

10. Give Yourself Some Credit
You are your harshest critic that keep putting yourself down with negative self-talk and limiting self-beliefs? How do you speak to yourself? What words do you use especially when things don’t go according to plan and you face failure? Wha are the exact words your inner critic uses to describe you? Would you be happy if someone tells the same thing you tell yourself to the person you love the most? If not, it means that you should turn your negative self-talk into a more productive inner dialogue and create a more positive relationship with yourself. Putting yourself down and fueling your self-limiting beliefs will not help you to achieve your goals. Furthermore, it will most probably block your success. And this is exactly what you want to avoid, right? So, stop putting yourself down. Stop the black and white thinking. The fact that you’ve made some poor choices and bad mistakes in your past do not mean that you’re a failure. If you want to succeed, own who you are. Own your mistakes and use them to your advantage. Your past is just an experience use it to your personal growth and self-development. Be proud of yourself, validate yourself, acknowledge your achievements and embrace your failures. You are in control of your life, day and work. You create your reality with the power of your thoughts, words and actions. You are responsible for your own life. You want to be productive, self-motivated and successful? Make friends with yourself and uncover your inner dialogue. Focus on your priorities, set challenging but achievable goals, use problems as opportunities to learn and above all be consistent with your actions, behaviours, and communication. You are a winner!

As people are increasingly working from home during this current crisis, more people are struggling to adapt. I found it quite natural once I started but I also have my degree that I did from home as a learning curve that taught me the importance of certain things like routine and avoiding distractions etc. The 8x8x8 rule is an interesting one, especially that ‘productive me time’ because it needs to be quality relaxation time. Excellent resources and suggestions!
Stay safe, Kate, and I hope you can have a relaxing weekend.

I TOTALLY agree with you, Caz. Navigating change in chaotic and complex times like these is definitely not the easiest thing to do but it’s still doable. Since they put the entire country under total lockdown I’ve been experiencing a strange mix of feelings. I have slowly “accepted” the situation and I am moving towards taking as many constructive actions as possible to make the best of these negative circumstances. But I have those days when you just feel blah and I feel like doing nothing all day. I guess it’s quite normal. I hope you’re doing well. Please stay… Read more »
